History Essay...Completed

It's finally done. I've been to the Carleton library in the day, at night in the rain, and I've travelled by bus to the University of Ottawa to get books...collecting five different sources. I've finally completed my history essay. I'm quite happy, although I have completely messed up my sleeping schedule...after pulling a couple all-nighters. I had to miss out on some parties, and even the Halloween group that went out Saturday night, because I was doing my history essay.

I still have tomorrow and today to look over the paper some more. Next paper, I'm going to start well in advance, perhaps a month or more before it is due.

This week Mom & Dad come down from St. Andrews to visit, and Dad has conference here, should be an awesome weekend. I'm looking forward to it. I'll try and bring out my Camera too!

The next weekend, November 10th, I'll be going to my 3rd airsoft game...it's at the Ottawa Valley field, so it's only 45 minutes away; it's also going to be a smallish game, ~20 people, unlike the last game that was 200+ people. I'll be sure to take some pictures of this game too. The airsoft "season" is coming down to a close, only a couple more games will be hosted, before it gets too cold...people have said there are 40 below winters here...and I don't think I could have fun in that kind of weather. The season will start up again in the spring, when it's warmer.

Cheers,
Andrew

Operation Border War

Just a short post, because I'm quite tired. I had an awesome time at the game, there were lots of people there, it was great to put some faces to the user names from the forums, and check out all of the cool guns and gear that everyone had.

Personally, I prefer the smaller games, this game I didn't get to fire through even 300 rounds (1 high capacity magazine/clip)...where as with the last game that was a lot smaller, I went through nearly 600 rounds. I didn't get any confirmed kills this time, mostly because the enemy was so deep in the dense woods that it was difficult to see them, but just patrolling the woods, defending our base, making attacks on the enemy base, was more than enough fun for a game that lasted from around 10am to 5:30pm.

There was one major scare in the middle of the night, before the game. An American airsoft retail store owner attempted to bring guns and accessories across the border, which is illegal if you do not own proper license for importing these guns. However, he had checked with customs the week before to see if it was alright, he got through early in the day...but his wife was in a second vehicle bringing over accessories (which are legal to import), but she didn't declare the $11,000 worth of accessories and was fined $4000 (much of which was the 25% duty that she owed). Back on topic, this gave everyone at the game a scare that the RCMP would show up to the game...they were looking for the guy that owned the store and he was at the game. Everyone was worried that the RCMP would confiscate their guns and gear.

Luckily veteran members, and people that knew the laws of Canada were there to calm everyone down. Unfortunately some people were quick to pack up and leave, and missed out on a great game. Nothing we were doing was illegal, it was just the American that was smuggling things into Canada that the Police were after. No police showed up, and we had an awesome day.

The rain didn't hit until about the last hour or so of the game, at the time was just a drizzle, but as the game finished and everyone was packing up it actually started to rain. This made for some slippery roads on the way back, due to our good driving, everyone made it home alive and well :)

Coming back we had some "car troubles" that delayed our convoy by a few hours, but I eventually made it home by about 3:30am safe and sound.

Right now, I'm tired...a bit sore, but not as much as last game (of course I have yet to move around a lot). Yesterday I nearly twisted my ankle when my foot slipped between some logs and I tried to keep moving, twisting my ankle a bit...was sore for the rest of the day, but seems fine now.

I'll be posting a link to the pictures from the game later, after I get them uploaded and "linkable".

Cheers,
Andrew

Thanksgiving

Last night (Sunday) I had my Thanksgiving dinner, I think it was turkey...and really really salty potatoes. Not even close to as good as the home-made Thanksgiving Dinners. Last night our floor also ordered out for pizza and wings, which was also great! We watched the movie Closer until about 4 in the morning, this of course after we watched The Exorcist.

Today I woke up to the sound of a phone call, Chris and I were going to the movies! We watched The Kingdom, which was pretty good.

Overall it's been a short weekend, and I'm very tired, so I should have a good sleep tonight for my 8:30am course tomorrow :)

Well I went to the gym today for about an hour or so. First I lifted some weights, then I found some of the interesting machines who's names I forget: one where you sit down and pull these two bars from your sides until they are in front of you (it works your chest muscles), another where you lift weights while sitting down and pull a bar up, another where you twist your body to the right and to the left against weight resistance, etc. I also went on one of those bike machines for 5-10 minutes. Overall, a great workout that made me tired and made my ears plug up for some reason. I'll probably try to go tuesday (I think it's closed on Monday).

Enjoy the video above, although my experience wasn't a bad one like Homer's :)

Cheers,

Andrew

Thanksgiving Lunch & Shopping

Well to start my 4-day weekend off, our floor...or what's left of it...went out Kelsey's for lunch today. I was surprised that there were only 11 people left on our floor, although 2 of them didn't come out to lunch with us. Everyone else went home for the weekend!

After lunch I headed over to Futureshop to look for some things, didn't find anything so I went over to Wal-mart to get some things for next weekend. I got a sleeping bag, a hot seat (for use as a small pillow), and a jackknife. I still need to find a mouthguard, but I'm not sure where any sports stores are around here that would have them.

Unfortunately we had a late lunch, so I won't feel hungry until after the 'caf' is closed :(
I did get some snacks yesterday for the long weekend though, and some things for my trip next weekend...so I should be able to survive tonight, otherwise I can head down to one of the places that are open late.

I nearly went to the gym today, but then I was asked if I wanted to go to Kelsey's for lunch, so that probably won't happen until tomorrow. I had my gym shorts on, and my gym shoes in my bag, and everything! Oh well...

Happy Thanksgiving,
Andrew

Oct. 13th - Big Game

Going up to my second airsoft game, near Oshawa (ON) but closer to Bowmanville (ON). It's a big one too, around 150 to 175 players (~80 people per team), I'll be going down on the Friday the 12th with a 4-5 car convoy of the Ottawa Valley Airsoft group, camping out over night and playing Saturday.

Sadly all my gear is back in St. Andrews, if I had it here, it would cut the costs in half; so I'll be renting a gun, paying for a seat, and entrance fee. I'll try to take more pictures this time.

In other news, I pulled a near-all nighter to finish my English assignment, I had been researching one topic but decided to do a different one over the course of the weekend...which left me to do research and slowly force myself to write the essay. I was about to go to bed last night, but instead had a feeling that I didn't want to do any work Tuesday afternoon. So I stayed up, turned on my laptop and finished the second half of my essay. I also got the title page and bibliography put together. Now I have it all complete, and Tuesday afternoon off to write my blog and set up my ride for the weekend after thanksgiving weekend.

Sunday I was sore all over, I had only one welt on my wrist, but everywhere else ached as if I had been running around for 6 hours...oh wait...I was. Walking down stairs was the hardest, and getting out of chairs too. It was a pretty good workout, so I'll have to do that more often to get used to it.

Monday I was still sore, but decided to bring my laptop to Journalism class, which worked out great! The only problem was having to haul that extra 10 pounds to the other side of campus and back. Still, I can type faster than I can write my notes out on paper, so it'll probably be a good idea for Journalism class...also the desks in the auditorium for Journalism are just long slabs that have seats attached, just one big desk. The little pull out desktops in other classrooms would probably buckle under the weight of my laptop, so Journalism class is probably the only class I'll be bringing my laptop to.

Monday for lunch I had pizza, I took pepperoni, then noticed BBQ chicken pizza...I took a slice of that too. The BBQ chicken pizza was 10 times better than regular pepperoni! I came back at supper and had 3 more slices of BBQ chicken. Not the healthiest meal, but tasty! I finally found some side meals like rice and noodles for dinner as well to go along with the greasy foods I eat.

I'm looking forward to the 4-day Thanksgiving day weekend, should be a blast. I'll probably try and head down to the theatre and catch a movie, not sure if Chris & Anna have any plans for the weekend, maybe I'll meet up with them :)

Cheers,
Andrew
